Riparian Restoration Project on the Sea Ranch Property in Cannon Beach

On Saturday February 19th, Ecola Creek Watershed Council volunteers, along with Doug Ray, and a Tongue Point Job Corps Crew completed a riparian planting project along the estuarine portion of Lower Ecola Creek on the Sea Ranch Property. The goal of this project was to revegetate the formally grazed riparian area with native plants that will help to increase the habitat value, stabilize the streambank to prevent erosion, and reduce the risk of having invasive plant species establish within the riparian corridor. Volunteers helped by removing invasive blackberry from the planting areas, planting trees, and caging the newly planted trees and shrubs. With everyone’s help the group planted and caged over 200 trees!

Special thanks to the Sea Ranch Property owners Terry and Carmen Swigart for their partnership in this project. It is earth conscience landowners like the Swigarts that allow our work to be possible!
